After the epic blockbuster Baahubali 2, there was a lot of excitement over the next Kamal Haasan movie Vikram. The fans’ expectations reached fever pitch as they wondered whether Kamal would top Baahubali 2 at the Box Office when his film hit screens on April 27th. It didn’t take long for these dreams to be fulfilled as Vikram has broken all Box Office records in Tamil Nadu, including beating Baahubali 2 to become the biggest film of all time!
It overtook the old Tamil Nadu record on the sixteenth day of its release, thanks to Kamal Haasan, a mega-blockbuster. It stands only a few lakhs shy of the all-time Tamil Nadu record, having overtaken Baahubali 2 by morning.
Since Vikram’s release, not only has all of South India seen a movie rank at the top of the charts. At the same time, Baahubali 2 is the only movie in the North to make the #1 spot, but the only states left in North India where Baahubali 2 remains #1 are Delhi, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, and Himachal Pradesh.
Keralan people never saw Baahubali 2 (the conclusion) in the theaters as the biggest earner; Telangana and Andhra Pradesh already had a new record-setting grosser, and KGF chapter 2 and RRR broke Baahubali 2’s record only a few months ago.
Vikram is expected to gross over Rs. 150 crores, setting a new record for Tamil Nadu’s box office. All the evidence leads to Vikram’s newfound box office domination over Rs. 175 crores.
Throughout his fantastic career, Kamal Haasan has had several films set records at the box office in Tamil Nadu. Indian, Apoorva Sagodharargal, and Sakalakala Vallavan are just three of those films. Still, because of limited tracking in the past, there may be more of them, and some may not have been accurately accounted for.
